New Fire Station in the Works in Suamico

((ERIN)) KRIS SCHULLER REPORTS THE OLD STATION IS CRAMPED AND OUTDATED – AND A NEW FACILITY IS IN THE PLANNING STAGES. FOR 55 YEARS FIRE STATION ONE HAS BEEN HOME BASE FOR THE SUAMICO FIRE DEPARTMENT. NOE: 11:01: THE TRUCKS ARE GETTING LARGER, THEY ARE GETTING HEAVIER. BUT WHILE THE AGENCY HAS GROWN – AND THIS BUILDING ADDED ON TO TWICE – CHIEF TROY NOE SAYS HIS DEPARTMENT NEEDS MORE ROOM. NOE: 16:39: TO TAKE THIS STUFF AND LAY IT ON THE FLOOR TO MAKE SURE IT’S ALL CLEAN, DIFFERENT THINGS LIKE THAT, THERE’S NO ROOM. KUBACKI: 34: WE HAVE A FACILITY, FIRE STATION ONE THAT IS 55 YEARS OLD. IT’S OLD, INEFFICIENT FROM AN OPERATIONAL STANDPOINT, IT DOESN’T HOUSE THE EQUIPMENT WELL. FOR THOSE REASONS AND MORE – VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR STEV KUBACKI SAYS – THE VILLAGE BOARD APPROVED A SPACE NEEDS STUDY MONDAY, DIRECTING STAFF TO SEARCH FOR AN ARCHITECT TO MAKE A NEW FIRE STATION ONE – REALITY. KUBACKI: 3:01: THE TIMING IS RIGHT, LETS GET THIS THING DONE KUBACKI SAYS THE STATION WOULD BE BUILT AT WEST DEERFIELD AVENUE AND RIVERSIDE DRIVE – PROVIDING AMPLE ROOM FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT – AND SPACE TO POSSIBLY HOUSE COUNTY RESCUE. IT WOULD ALSO MOVE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OUT OF A BUSY BUSINESS DISTRICT. KUBACKI: 59 THIS FACILITY AT A LOCATION IN VICKERY VILLAGE RIGHT IN THE CORE OF BUSINESSES, DOESN’T MAKE A LOT OF SENSE AT THIS POINT IN TIME. NOE: 12:21: IT’S VERY TOUGH AT TIMES TO FIND A PARKING SPOT, TO GET OUR PEOPLE HERE TO GET OUR TRUCKS OUT THE DOOR, TO RESPOND TO AN EMERGENCY. IN THE PLANNING FOR 5 YEARS -KUBACKI SAYS THE VILLAGE HAS THE MONEY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. IN SUAMICO KRIS SCHULLER – LOCAL 5 ((TOM)) KUBACKI SAYS THE VILLAGE CAN FUND THE PROJECT WITHOUT RAISING TAXES. ((ERIN)) AND HERE’S RYAN RODIG WITH A LOOK AT SPORTS.
