City begins demolition of metro motel to build fire station


FIVE CITIES. BECAUSE OF ANOTHER LOCAL OPTION

MONTH, THE CITY OF DES MOINES IS
MOVING FORWARD WITH A NEW FIRE
STATION. IT WILL BE BUILT AT 4144 HUBBELL
AVENUE, THE SITE OF THE FORMER
RELAX INN. DEMOLITION OF THE MOTEL BEGAN
TODA
THE HOTEL CLOSED LAST YEAR, AND
WAS LATER DESIGNATED BY CITY
PLANNERS AS THE FUTURE SITE OF
FIRE STATION 11. THE ONE CENT LOCAL OPTION SALES
TAX STARTED EARLY LAST MONTH. THE MONEY IS BEING USED TO
ENHANCE PUBLIC SAFETY, IMPROVE
NEIGHBORHOODS, AND UPGRADE
BUILDINGS, WHICH INCLUDES THIS
NEW FIRE STATION.>>THIS WILL CUT IN HALF THE
TRAVEL DISTANCE TO THE FAR
NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE CITY. ESPECIALLY, SINCE THE 2009
ANNEXATIONS. AND AS THIS AREA DEVELOPS, BOTH
RESIDENTIALLY AND COMMERCIALLY,
THERE’S A GREATER NEED FOR US TO
BE CLOSER TO THAT BORDER. RHEYA: DESIGN, PREPARATION, AND
