BLOUNT COUNTY COULDN’T WAIT TO
BE BORN AT A BIRMINGHAM
HOSPITAL. SHERI: HOW A FAST THINKING
FIREFIGHTER BROUGHT A BABY GIRL
INTO A WORLD.>>IT WASN’T PLANNED, BUT GOD
WORKS IN FUNNY WAYS. LARISSA: AND THAT SENSE OF HUMOR
SHOWED, WHEN EARLY YESTERDAY
MORNING, JOHNATHAN BEARD’S
WIFE’S WATER BROKE. THEY QUICKLY HEADED TO THE
HOSPITAL FROM THEIR BLOUNT
COUNTY HOME.>>EVERY TIME SHE WOULD SCREAM
LOUDER, I WOULD LOOK AT THE
CLOCK IN THE CAR. AND WHEN STARTED NOTICING THOSE

THE WAY. BUT BEARD KNEW A CENTER POINT
FIRE STATION WAS NEARBY.>>I KNEW THEY’D HAVE MORE OF AN
IDEA ON HOW TO DELIVER THE BABY
THAN I WOULD. MARY: BEARD SAYS FIREFIGHTERS
HAD ABOUT A THREE MINUTE HEADS
UP BEFORE THEY SHOWED UP TO THE
STATION, AND THEN 4 FIREFIGHTERS

WASN’T AROUND HER THROAT WHERE
IT WAS CUTTING AIR OFF. THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO TO
GET THAT CORD AND FREE HER, AND
WHEN SHE STARTED CRYING, I KNEW
EVERYTHING WAS GOING TO BE OK. MARY: BABY KAROLINE, NAMED FOR
HER GREAT GRANDMOTHER, MAKING
HER ENTRANCE IN A WAY THAT’S
ONLY FITTING.>>MY GRANDMOTHER ALWAYS HAD A
FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATIC, SO I
THINK SHE WOULDN’T HAVE IT OTHER
WAY THAN COMING IN LIKE THIS. MARY: THE FIREFIGHTERS TOLD US
IT WAS AN AMAZING POINT IN THEIR
CAREERS, AND THAT GOD PUT THEM
IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT
TIME.>>I THANK THEM FOR BEING
PREPARED. MARY: STILL, THESE PARENTS THANK
GOD FOR PUTTING A FEW
UNEXPECTING HEROES IN THEIR
PATH. IN CENTER POINT, MARY O’CONNELL,
WVTM 13. SHERI: WHAT ACUTE BABY — A CUTE
BABY, AND DEFINITELY A STORY TO
TELL FOR YEARS TO COME. GUY: CROPS TO FIRST RESPONDERS,
NUMBER ONE. AND TWO, KIND OF CONFUSED ABOUT
THE MATH ON THAT T-SHIRT, SIX
