AFN Yongsan – Fire Station Tour

STUDENTS FROM SEOUL AMERICAN ELEMENTARY MEET
SPARKY THE FIRE DOG. SPARKY INVITED THE KIDS TO HIS FIRE STATION
FOR A TOUR DURING FIRE PREVENTION WEEK. DURING THE TOUR, KIDS LEARN HOW TO EVACUATE
SAFELY AND QUICKLY FROM THE FIRE SCENE, AND TO REPORT TO THE CLOSEST FIRE STATION.
WE ALSO SHOW THEM HOW WE CARRY OUT OUR MISSION USING FIRE TRUCKS. AFTER THE VIDEO TRAINING, STUDENTS GET A CHANCE
TO PRACTICE WHAT THEY LEARNED BY ESCAPING FROM A HALLWAY FILLED WITH GAS. PARENTS SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT EVERY ROOM IN
THEIR HOUSE HAS A SMOKE DETECTOR, AND THAT IT’S WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN A FIRE STARTS,
EVERYONE SHOULD COVER THEIR FACES WITH A WET TOWEL
AND EVACUATE USING A LOW CRAWL. ALTHOUGH DETECTING SMOKE AND EVACUATING SAFELY
IS CRITICAL IN A FIRE SITUATION, IT’S EVEN MORE CRITICAL TO LEARN HOW TO
PREVENT FIRES FROM STARTING IN THE FIRST PLACE. MANY KIDS USED TO PLAY AROUND WITH MATCHES
OR LIGHTERS AS TOYS. IT’S IMPORTANT FOR PARENTS
TO KEEP IGNITION MATERIALS AWAY FROM THEIR KIDS TO PREVENT FIRE ACCIDENTS. SENIOR AIRMAN TAYLOR WEST, YONGSAN KOREA.
